Winning Team Crosses Finish Line 5 Days Ahead of Schedule in Dohn Construction’s Wellness Committee Annual Step Challenge

FORT COLLINS, CO – Dohn Construction announced the winners of its 2022 EPIC Step Challenge – a health and wellness competition that focuses on improving the fitness of employees.

The EPIC Step Challenge is a competition in which Dohn team members are placed into teams of six and compete to see who can finish a preset course the quickest, this year being the legendary Pacific Coast Highway from Dana Point up the coast of California to the famous Chandlier Drive-Thru Tree. Winning teams receive awesome cash prizes but more importantly bragging rights until the next challenge.

The water cooler was buzzing with chatter about the competition. Here is what some had to say about the race.

Senior Estimator Nick Worley is on the record as saying, “I actually got out of bed at 11pm, emailed everyone on my team and told them I was going to walk .4 miles to ensure victory for us.”

“It hurts”, said HR Manager Nancy Stark, “I went to bed thinking we were going to win, I wake up to find out we crossed the finish line an hour after the first-place team … If only I pushed myself for those extra miles last weekend.”

Reed Nelson chimed in “I personally walked 144.8 miles the last 25 days leading my team and to see another team be 126 miles ahead and finish without us even sniffing the finish line hits you right in the heart. I hope there are some strict PED testing for the next challenge.”

“My dog and I went on a 4 mile walk the night we crossed the finish line … He was tired and wanted to stop but I pushed him through to help secure a win for my team,” said Josh Wallace.

“Am I disappointed? In a word ‘Absolutely’, I thought we had this in the bag but then I hear about co-workers lacing up their New Balance running shoes at 11pm and willing their team to victory… I have some major prep work to do for the next competition.” said, Chris Augusto.

Estimating Intern Mason was heard saying, “I checked the leaderboard more than my Instagram account this month. I didn’t get as many likes as I did steps, but I wouldn’t change a thing. It was fun and I cannot wait until the next challenge.”

A big congratulations to team Shelby Cobra (Nick W. - Josh W. – Stephanie D. – Victor T. – David N. – Hunter C.) for crossing the finish line first in only 25 days, one hour ahead of team Cadillac Eldorado, and taking home the $100 prize for each team member.

Overall, this challenge was a huge success and credit needs to be given to the Wellness Committee for a job well done. A special shout out to Nancy and Sequoyah for putting in extra hours to ensure fun was had by all. It is truly amazing that 36 people walked 3,984.3 miles over 27 days. This challenge was an EPIC battle, and we are counting down the days until the next one.
